310 Holdings Inc. Reads (Transcribes) Seismic Data Stored On Legacy Computer Backup Tapes Due to Acquisition of John Bordynuik Inc.
NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario, June 26, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- 310
Holdings Inc. (OTCBB:
TRTN) yesterday announced a definitive agreement to acquire
customized tape data migration hardware and systems from John
Bordynuik Inc. An 8k was filed today that includes an agreement for
the first of three acquisitions. Subsequent agreements to purchase
approximately $1M in remaining related hardware and intellectual
property will be announced shortly.
310 Holdings' tape drive hardware is entirely customized from
the head assembly to the final bit recognition hardware. This
hardware accurately detects and validates each and every bit at the
magnetic flux transition level. There is no other hardware
available anywhere in the world to accomplish this. Using 310's
hardware, the company can accurately transcribe old seismic data
and sensor data tapes from the 1960's to present. The Company's
technology has also been retrofitted to modern tape drives to
recover data from previously unreadable modern tape cartridge
formats.
Presently, data migration companies use old original equipment
which is notoriously inaccurate. The recovered data cannot be
verified and in many cases is useless.
310 Holdings' custom-designed hardware accurately transcribes
data stored on old tapes, validated to the bit-level, with many
challenges including:
-- Skew misalignment
-- Stiction problems
-- Bit crowding
-- Stretched tapes
-- Weak magnetic flux transitions
-- Weak bit and bit dropout
Data recovered from 310's drives are saved as a "bit image,"
preserving it in the long-term data storage standard for use with
our Swahili Server. 310 Holdings' Swahili Server mounts the bit
image and makes the files available in modern, accessible, useful
formats through an intuitive web-based interface.
The Company's Swahili Server is able to mount seismic data and
convert it to modern seismic data formats.
Millions of old seismic data tapes are in long-term storage and
contain valuable information that has been previously inaccessible.
Many companies as well as governments agencies throughout the world
own oil and gas seismic data stored on old 7-track and 9-track
computer tapes. These tapes are highly valuable for a number of
reasons including:
-- Seismic data does not expire.
-- Computing algorithms to process seismic data has improved
substantially over the past 40 years.
-- The methods used to acquire the seismic data back in the 1960's
are illegal now for environmental reasons (massive explosives to
create large seismic events).
-- This seismic data contains information of oil and gas reserves not
yet exploited.
-- This seismic data contains information to help oil and gas
companies laterally drill to other adjacent reserves previously
unknown.
-- Risk Management: The first one to read the old data and process it
gets the oil.
NASA
310 Holdings is reading thousands of tapes containing HRIR (high
resolution infrared - temperature) sensor data from NASA's Nimbus
Satellite. This satellite recorded temperature data for every 7
square kilometer of the planet during 1966 to 1972. This data is
highly valuable to earth sciences and global warming research.
Mobile Solution
If the data is stored on tapes subject to export restrictions,
or the data is highly sensitive or classified, we have a mobile
data recovery solution that can process 700 tapes/day on-site. 310
Holdings' technology is perfectly encapsulated in a 40-foot
shipping container to process customer tapes without leaving the
site.
Cost
310 Holdings' tape transcription service costs $22/tape
regardless of volume or tape type. We can process open reel 7- and
9-track tapes, DLT, helical scan, 3480 and 3490 cartridges and all
other 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch and 1-inch formats. More information about
our custom hardware can be viewed at http://www.johnbordynuik.com.
